LICK THE STAR IS NOT A GIRL BAND, BUT AN EXCITING NEW ROCK TRIO READY TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE, MAYBE EVEN A BIT TOO FAR.With two American members — a fiery vocalist (Reni Lane) and a grooving bassist (Celia Marie Chéri)—paired with a French drummer, the group initially met in Paris; trading dating horror stories as inspiration for their first songs all while bonding over their shared love for DIY/punk attitude and simple, subversive aesthetics.Drawing inspiration from art-rock icons like PJ Harvey and the stripped-down style of acts like ESG, their first self-released demo 'Don’t Overthink It' showcases this fresh yet familiar ethos with an instantly addictive call-and-response chorus, insistently echoing the self soothing, mantra-esque title: It’s an inexplicable world, don’t overthink it think it think it.Written in the garage of their friend Julia Johansen (singer/drummer of the Oracle Sisters) and then minimally recorded in Manchester with producer/mix engineer Christopher Stockton (Razorlight, The Streets), the slouchy drums and taut bass underpin a thoroughly modern tale: that of a bona-fide movie star sliding into your DMs, inspired by bassist Celia Marie Chéri’s real life.Since their inception the girls have already performed to a sold-out show at Badaboum opening for NYC synth group Nations of Language as well as various private soirées at Silencio and Les Bains. The name of the band is taken from Sofia Coppola’s first short film; whose thematic focus on alienation, objectification, and the complexities of girlhood resonates deeply with the band.
